About

Jerel Ramsey is a multidisciplinary artist whose meaning-making emerges through a scaffolded interplay of music, design, and film as modes of storytelling.

His artistic practice unfolds through an integrated process where sound, image, and atmosphere are activated, creating spaces where people feel into relationships with one another and their shared worlds.

His multidisciplinary work centres decolonisation as a practice of reorientation, reconnecting people to land, foregrounding Black and Indigenous knowledge as primary reference points, and unsettling Eurocentric frameworks of aesthetics, authorship, and collaboration. His storytelling is particularly attentive to lineage, memory, and cultural inheritance, while remaining open to fluidity across borders and identity.

Film currently sits at the centre of Jerel’s work through which his interests in music, design, storytelling and imaging meet. He is particularly drawn to narrative and fictional filmmaking, where ideas can be alchemised into lived, sensorial experience.  His films draw expansively on horror and Caribbean folklore as expressions of contemporary consciousness. Through the prism of these genres, he engages inherited fears, unresolved histories, and cultural memory as they are re-situated within modern and diasporic realities.

Alongside film, Jerel’s music and design practices operate as parallel forms of storytelling, anchored in a belief that narrative art is not only about representation, but about how collective and personal histories are shared to cultivate deeper forms of co-presence and futuring. Across these mediums, his work is distinguished by its ability to weave multiple strands of lineage and culture into a contemporary visual language, offering experiences that feel alive, grounded and emergent.
